Changing Hydrology in New England Agriculture and Agroforestry

May 29, 2024 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
FREE

Heavy precipitation events in the Northeast and Midwest regions of the United States have increased in frequency and intensity over the past century. These hydrologic deviations are projected to continue with climate change and will substantially alter the landscapes we live in and value.

Extreme precipitation effects on agriculture could have downstream effects on food supply for many people. Anthony Buda of USDA Agricultural Research Service will cover the impacts of extreme precipitation and flooding in agricultural settings and cover current research on this topic. Katherine Favor and Samuel Feibel of the National Agroforestry Center will then provide an applied perspective on how agroforestry can be used to help farms adapt to increased flooding risk and extreme precipitation.
