SUMMARY:Spring Plant Sale
DESCRIPTION:Online Ordering Deadline: April 21 \nWe will be selling wildflowers\, grasses\, seeds\, and more! We will also be selling fruits and other edible plants! Examples include blueberries\, elderberries\, and ostrich fern! All plants will come as plugs and tubelings. There will be numerous options available to you! Once again\, we will be selling Black Gold Composted Cow Manure! Root bags and bat houses will also be available to purchase. \nAll of our native plant varieties are straight species\, meaning that no cultivars will be sold. It has been found that cultivars often do not have the same benefits to wildlife that straight species do. Our focus on native species will help our native pollinators\, increase biodiversity\, and conserve our native plants and animals\, among other benefits. \nWe will not be selling any ornamental non-native bulbs. We hope those of you who are traditional gardeners will look at our native plants\, as they can be just as gorgeous and hold significant value to our native pollinators and other wildlife. Some natives that we are providing are also great alternatives to invasive plants such as Winged Euonymus and non-native turf grasses. \nThere will be a first-come\, first-serve cash sale on leftover cold-germination seeds\, plants\, and garden supplies at the pickup site. \nOrder Pickup\nMay 2\, 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM\nMay 3\, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM\nFarrington Nature Linc.\n291 Cambridge Turnpike\nLincoln\, MA 01773

SUMMARY:Soil Health Outcomes in Clover Living Mulch Trials
DESCRIPTION:Join Lincoln Fishman from Momentum Ag to hear about the results of nearly 50 on-farm trials investigating clover living mulch. Crops ranged from small-scale organic vegetables to small grains to conventional silage corn. \nWe’ll discuss our current thoughts on best management practices for growing cash crops in clover living mulch. \nWe will also look at the soil health test results from these trials. The head of Cornell’s Soil Health Testing Lab\, Bob Schindelbeck\, will join the call to field any farmer questions about how the Lab actually runs its various tests and how their scoring metric is devised. \nContact Stephen at stephen@buylocalfood.org with questions. \nRegister here!

SUMMARY:Healthy Soil through Maximum Biodiversity workshop - Montague
DESCRIPTION:Join Landscape Interactions and NOFA/Mass for an array of hands-on workshops this season\, as we partner with farmers and community gardeners across Western Massachusetts to implement a series of scalable\, replicable designs and land management practices that incorporate biodiverse\, native pollinator-supporting vegetation. \nFunded by a Healthy Soils Action Grant from the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA)\, Healthy Soil through Maximum Biodiversity aims to demonstrate that enhancing plant diversity and supporting at-risk pollinators leads to healthier soils\, increased soil organic carbon sequestration and improved ecosystem function. \nWhether your farm is urban or rural\, large or small-scale\, your production livestock or vegetable-based\, there are gleanings to take home from this project. Workshops offered in the 2025 season include soil analysis and on-site data collection\, site preparation\, native pollinator life cycle requirements\, native plant and seed installation as well as short and long-term maintenance. \n  \nEvents: \n\nSoil Analysis\, Carbon Sampling and Designing for Resilience – Red Fire Farm\, Montague\nSaturday\, April 19\, 2025 | 3:00pm – 5:30pm\nSoil Analysis\, Carbon Sampling and Designing for Resilience – NOFA/Mass Food Access\, Tapley Court Apartments\nSaturday\, April 26\, 2025 | 10:00am – 1:00pm\nSoil Analysis\, Carbon Sampling and Designing for Resilience – Nuestras Raíces\, La Finca (The Farm)\nSaturday\, April 26\, 2025 | 2:30pm – 5:00pm\nSoil Analysis\, Carbon Sampling and Planting for Resilience – Indian Line Farm\nFriday May 9 2025 | 10:00am – 1:00pm
