SUMMARY:Soil Amendments for Organic Farms with NOFA Mass
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will discuss a soil-health based approach to using soil amendments on organic farms. \nWe’ll review the OMRI (Organic Materials Review Institute) list and go over common misconceptions about restricted and listed materials. We’ll also discuss how to use various soil health assessments to determine what amendments your farm needs and how to identify appropriate organic options: \n\nStandard soil test and Saturated Paste Test – chemical mineral content\nBiological Assessment – microbial life\nSoil Health Assessment – physical aspects\n\nYou’ll leave equipped with the knowledge about which soil tests to do and when\, and what the tests will tell you about your soil health and amendment applications. Join us to gain the confidence to craft the right amendments plan for your farm this year. \nAbout the Instructors: \nLaura Davis is a Soil Technical Assistance provider and TOPP Coordinator with NOFA/Mass. She is also an organic certifier with Baystate Organic Certifiers.  Laura has served on the NOFA/Mass Board of Directors since 2011\, as well as the Co-President for the NOFA Interstate Council. \nIn 2014\, Laura joined the NOFA/Mass staff\, assisting farmers with their organic certification questions\, and then joined the Soil Technical Assistance team in 2017 doing soil test analysis. For over 10 years\, Laura ran Long Life Farm in Hopkinton\, MA\, along with her husband Donald Sutherland\, growing certified organic vegetables in a no-till regenerative system. \nAbout the Project: \nNOFA/Mass is proud to be a Core Partner in the Northeast Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP). TOPP is a network assembled by the USDA’s National Organic Program to support transitioning and organic producers with mentorship and resources. Farmer-to-farmer mentorship\, workshops\, webinars\, field days\, technical assistance\, and other educational events will offer opportunities to learn about organic production\, the certification process\, market opportunities\, and more. Read more and sign up to be a mentor or transitioning farmer mentee on the TOPP website. \nRegister Here \nAccessibility: \nThis online event will be presented in English\, with Spanish interpretation. \nView event page in English  \nVer la pagina en español  \n\n\n	Related
