SUMMARY:Winter Salt Week 2026
DESCRIPTION:Governmental and non-governmental organizations across the United States have been tackling this issue in their own communities\, watersheds\, and states for years. During the last week of January each year\, there is an effort to highlight challenges\, showcase successes\, and elevate the need for broader policy and societal action. \nChloride is one of the main ingredients in road salt\, and does not biodegrade or evaporate. We currently use more road salt than we need for it to be effective. Once salt gets into our environment\, it is not easily removed. One teaspoon of salt can permanently pollute up to five gallons of fresh water. When we place salt on our roads\, run-off from rainwater and stormwater carry it to our rivers\, lakes and streams. It can eventually find its way into our drinking water supply. \nIt is important for all of us to understand impacts of chloride in our environment and how to reduce chloride use on our roads and paved surfaces. Learn more from our friends in the mid-west during Salt Week 2026! \nFri.\, Jan. 30 – Advocating for Change (11:00 am – 12:00 pm) \nFri.\, Jan\, 30 – Salt Monitoring 101 (12:00 – 1:00 pm) \n  \n  \n\n\n	Related
